Exercise Motivation Guide

Great Workout Program - Click HereSo you’ve started that weight loss program, but now it’s time to figure out how to keep your exercise motivation going. It’s great when you first start out a new plan and have all the motivation in the world to make a change. Then life gets in the way and creates “excuses” and reasons to miss a workout. So what do you do to keep moving forward? How do you find the way to get off the couch and go put on the running shoes or the sweats? Let’s look at some of our favorite exercise motivations to help us find the energy to keep moving forward.

Short-Term Goals

We’ve said before that one of the keys to weight loss success is the usage of short-term and long-term goal setting. Exercise motivation and weight loss comes from setting weight loss goals, sticking to them, and watching scale numbers shrink. One of the best ones is short-term goals on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. When you reach these short-term milestones, you will soon find the reasons needed to keep striving to achieve more of them. Exercise motivation starts with making changes, and working out requires a change of lifestyle from what may be comfortable.

Music Motivation

One of my favorites is to listen to music while working out. The use of a MP3 player of your choice and program in a good batch of upbeat songs is a great way to keep going through a tough workout. Also try to find songs with a consistent beat through them. Songs that have a fast beat then a slow beat then a fast beat again might cause you to get out of rhythm and take away from the overall benefits of working out. There are also self help tapes and downloadable content for MP3’s that you can listen to that can also help keep you motivated.

Fitness Diary

Much like a food diary, a fitness diary can be just what you need to find the exercise motivation you’re looking for. Chart your progress on a calendar or journal for you to go back and look at the achievements you’ve made as you continue to move forward. Let others know that you are working out and brag to them about the progress you’ve made. Continue to show your goals on your charts and journals and consistently update them for new goals. Be sure to write down your daily achievements to compare to your goals.

Enjoy the Journey

Feeling better and healthier can be great for exercise motivation as long as you remember how you got there. When people have busy schedules or are feeling very sluggish it can be hard to continue working on a program to get into better physical condition, but after that program is in full swing it can be surprising how much more energy people will have. Feel successful — because you are! Now think ahead to achieving your next goal; “what do I have to do to reach a mile farther than last week?” Exercise beginners can t fake the feeling of energy and eagerness that comes naturally to advanced fitness enthusiasts.
